Like humans, dogs are mortal too. While the average life spans are very different. Humans live on an average of 70 years but dogs live only 10-12 years. And it is very hard to say goodbye to your favorite pooch. Anyone who has gone through this can understand how sad an event it is to lose a family member so early.

But there are dog breeds with longest lifespans that can cross the average benchmark. However, this also depends upon proper care and the breeding environment.  

What is the aging process in dogs?

Dogs have a unique aging process. They age rapidly and thus their lifespans are shorter. According to various studies, dogs hit their babyhood, childhood, and puberty in one year only which is the 1st year they are born.

In the later ages, they steer towards dotage and thus various diseases get attached to them. Many abnormal tissue growth occurs, producing several tumor chances and hereditary complications also appear. 

In short, the age from 7-12 years of a dog is the declining age.

3. Biewer Terrier

Biewer Terrier is another dog breed with longest lifespan which is a miniature. It is 7-11 inches and lives around 16 years in normal circumstances. However, if the quality of lifestyle improves they can live for some bonus years.

An Australian cattle dog named “Bluey” holds the record of longest dog life for about 29 years.

Generally, they live about 15 years on average. These are energetic, intelligent, and observing dogs and can be trained easily. However, they are stubborn sometimes but can be reinforced positively.
